Animal-Free Science in Canada is in Trouble!
Animal Justice Academy Lunchtime Live
with Dr. Charu Chandrasekera
12pm - 1pm

Canada's national hub for developing, validating, and promoting non-animal testing methods is about to close down unless we act now!

Animals in science labs endure a life of pain, terror, and isolation. Meanwhile 95% of drugs tested to be safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials.

The good news is technological advancements are rapidly proving to not only be a viable replacement to research using animals, but one that's cheaper, faster, and more predictive of results in humans.

Bewilderingly, as other countries compete to be leaders in developing alternatives to experimenting on animals, Canada's only animal-free lab – the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) run by the brilliant Dr. Charu Chandrasekera – is set to shut down.

Even though the Canadian government says they're committed to developing animal-free research methods, they've failed to fund this commitment. That means without urgent government funding, Charu and the centre's crucial work to help end toxicity testing on animals and replace the use of animals in science will cease.

Join us for this AJA Lunchtime Live with Charu to become part of the campaign to save the CCAAM and fight for a future without animals needing to suffer for the sake of science!

*We invite folks to have their video on during this event to enhance the sense of community, but it’s not mandatory

About Our Guests:

Dr. Charu Chandrasekera is the founder and executive director of Canada’s first and only centre dedicated exclusively to animal-free science—the Canadian Centre for Alternatives to Animal Methods (CCAAM) which has recently been closed at University of Windsor.

She is an experienced scientist, a former animal researcher, a science policy expert, and an animal lover. Through CCAAM, Dr. Chandrasekera promotes the replacement of animals in Canadian chemical toxicity testing, biomedical research, and education through 21st century science, innovation, and ethics.

Animal Justice Academy is a free online training program, community (10,000 strong!), & action collective for those who want to make a better world for animals

We offer a self-paced course and ongoing live panels & workshops in becoming effective & enduring advocates for animals through politics, media, community engagement, policy, promotion of veganism, and public outreach. Sign up for free at www.animaljusticeacademy.com.
